Most articles about outsourcing your editing are really sales pitches in disguise. This one is not. Outsourcing is genuinely not for everyone, and the honest version is more useful than the cheerful one. Here is how to tell which side of it you are on.
When it is probably right for you
Outsourcing tends to make sense when the editing has become the bottleneck rather than the craft. A few honest signs: galleries go out late and you are apologising for the wait. The cull sits untouched for days because facing it feels like a second wedding. Your evenings belong to the desk. Your style drifts wedding to wedding because you reach the edit exhausted. Or you are turning down bookings, not for lack of work, but because you cannot clear what you have already shot.
If two or more of those landed, the editing is costing you more than money, and handing it over will likely feel like a raise and a holiday at once.
Outsourcing is not for everyone, and a service that pretends otherwise is selling, not helping.
When it is probably not
There are real cases where you should keep editing yourself. If the editing is the part you love, the part that feels like the art, then giving it up would cost you the thing that makes the work yours, and no amount of time saved is worth that. If your volume is genuinely low, a handful of weddings a year, the time saved may not justify setting up a new part of your workflow. And if your look depends on heavy, frame-by-frame fine-art retouching unique to you, a profile-based service may not fit those specific images.
None of those are wrong. Knowing which one you are is the whole point.
The honest middle
Plenty of photographers land in between: they love a slow, considered edit on their personal favourites, and would happily never colour-correct another reception. Outsourcing does not have to be all or nothing. You can hand over the volume and keep the frames you actually want to sit with.
